Beginning Band Series B
“Hope” is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words And never stops - at all And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard And sore must be the storm That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm I’ve heard it in the chillest land And on the strangest Sea Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me. Emily Dickinson's famous poem about hope served as the inspiration for this concert march for young musicians. As Dickinson describes hope as a beautiful, feathered creature that perches within us and sings unwaveringly, this march is inherently melodic but just as unrelenting as this wondrous songbird is described to be. I certainly hope the energy and persistence of this tune will match the unrelenting spirit of you and your ensemble!
